Age hasn't slowed down Sylvester Stallone much. He was pushing 60 when he made Rocky Balboa back in 2006, proving that both he and his flagship fighter could still go the distance. Two years later, he followed it up with 2008's Rambo, a long-awaited return to his second most famous series. In 2010, Stallone recruited a cast of history's most iconic action movie stars for The Expendables, uniting Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, and others. Early last month, the series third and supposed final installment The Expendables 3 was released, but despite an even bigger and more impressive cast, the film majorly underachieved at the box office. Always one to roll with the punches, Stallone's ready to get back at it again. This time, to give a proper send-off to his most flawed hero, John Rambo, in the series' fifth and final film, titled Rambo: Last Blood.
It has been 6 years since the previous film, Rambo, and an unbelievable 32 years since the series debuted with First Blood back in 1982. While plot details are unknown at this time, the title may suggest a bitter end for the beloved Navy Seal. Frankly, I find myself worried about the fate of this troubled character. The original film's title "First Blood" is a reference to the corrupt police drawing first blood from Rambo, which prompts him to finally fight back against them. If "Last Blood" is also referring to Rambo's blood, which seems likely, then surely it could mean only death for him. I would like to emphasize that this is purely speculation on my part, but it seems to me like it would be the most fitting end for this savage hero. However, over the last thirty years, if Rambo has proven anything, it's that he is one tough dude to kill.
In addition to starring in the film, Stallone will also be directing it. The action star is no stranger behind the camera, having previously directed Rambo (2008), The Expendables, and the last four Rocky films. I'm curious to see whether or not this last film will top the outrageously high kill count of the last Rambo, which according to IMDB averaged over 2.5 kills per minute for a total of 236 kills. The film has a tentative release date of 2015, and I'm willing to bet that it will be rated-R. Check back here for more Rambo: Last Blood news as it becomes available.
