Last week I groaned when I heard Taken 3 was going to be titled "Tak3n". This week the first trailer of the film put my worries to rest. 20th Century Fox just released the trailer for Tak3n and it looks awesome! Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, and he's been framed for murder! Now he has to try to keep his daughter safe and find the men responsible, while the police force, led by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, is coming after him!
Just days ago, Liam Neeson announced that he expects this to be the last film in the series. It's time for Bryan Mills to finish things once and for all. After this exciting new trailer, it's clear that there won't be any kidnapping this time around. Prior to the trailer, many people were jokingly speculating about who would be kidnapped next, whether it would be the dog, the boyfriend, or grandma. Fortunately, it appears that joke has been quickly laid to rest. In Tak3n, they've taken away his love, and now Bryan Mills is going to take their lives! One by one!
What excites me most about the trailer is that not only are the stakes higher and the fight more personal than ever, but Bryan has good reason to be more merciless than we've ever seen him before. Hopefully he'll return to his vengeful, violent form we witnessed in the first film, rather than the much softer character we saw in the disappointing and sugar-coated sequel. My only concern with the film is that Olivier Megaton, the director of Taken 2, is also the director of this final film. I thought his work in the last movie was amateurish and far too tame, so I'm certainly hoping he steps things up big time for Bryan's last battle. Seriously, did you guys see Taken 2? It ends with what are probably the two most pitiful movie deaths I've ever seen. What was that all about?! Unforgivable! I have my fingers crossed that Tak3n will make up for that mess of a movie. Bringing in Forest Whitaker and Dougray Scott is certainly a step in the right direction. The film comes to theaters January 9th, 2015!
