The iconic King of the Monsters, Godzilla, is set to return to the big screen in Godzilla 2, and this time he's bringing some old friends to play with! According to hints given by Legendary Pictures at San Diego's Comic-Con, classic Godzilla monsters Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah will be reuniting with the colossal lizard in the upcoming sequel. The film will be directed by Gareth Edwards, who also directed this year's Godzilla movie. In the meantime, Edwards will be busy directing a Star Wars spin-off film due out in 2016. Godzilla 2 has a release date of June 8th, 2018, giving the world a few more years to get ready for Godzilla's next monster smash hit.
For those of you that are unaware, here's a little insight on these three other monsters, all of which are exponentially more awesome than the dreadful M.U.T.O. monsters from this year's Godzilla movie. Mothra is a friendly giant moth creature and is one of the most popular monsters in the Godzilla universe. It has multiple methods of attack, including the power to create destructive gusts of wind using its massive wings, as well as the ability to spray silk and poison. Rodan is a Pterosaurus that is usually one of Godzilla’s allies but occasionally they fight against each other. He has the power to create sonic booms which are strong enough to topple buildings. Lastly is Ghidorah, also known as King Ghidorah, a golden three-headed dragon that is one of Godzilla’s deadliest enemies. Ghidorah is capable of emitting gravity beams from its mouths, and like the other two monsters, can use its enormous wings to create strong winds. He originally appeared in the film Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, in which he appears from outer space and wreaks havoc in Japan, only to be defeated by the combined forces of Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan. Considering all three of these monsters are confirmed for the sequel, it seems likely that Godzilla 2 will be an Americanized remake of that classic film. We'll find out when it hits theaters in 2018!
